A fire was ripped in a hotel in the city of Kolkata in Sharqia IndiaPolice said on Wednesday that at least 14 people were killed.
The chief police officer, Manuj Kumar Verma, told reporters that the fire broke out on Tuesday evening at the Returaj Hotel in central Kolkata, and was controlled after an effort that took six fire engines. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
“Several people have been rescued from the rooms and the roof of the hotel,” said Verma.
The photos and videos that were implemented in the Indian media showed people trying to escape through the windows and narrow edges of the building.
Colkka newspaper reported that at least one person died when he jumped from the balcony in an attempt to escape.
