Tens of thousands of demonstrators are expected to move to the streets throughout the country on May Thursday, who oppose the Trump administration.
On May, which celebrates workers all over the world on International Workers’ Day, it occurs on May 1 of each year. This year, activists in the United States aim to build on widespread momentum of protests against the Trump administration’s policies.
Trump’s anti -Trump demonstrators have expressed a set of concerns related to the recent procedures of the administration, including eliminating thousands of federal jobs, immigration raids, and billionaire Elon Musk was involved in reducing the size of the United States government.
A protest against the “war on the employees” of the Trump administration
On May, the demonstrators sharpen their message to dismantle what they say are attacks on the working class and migrants. The organizers for this effort, who called the strong May, says that the administration and its billionaire allies are a threat to the rights of workers, public services and the safety of migrants regardless of their legal status. The organizers mentioned their opposition to violent forms of protest.
The organizers said on Web page on the day of strong events in May.
They added, “They spoil our schools, privatize public services, attack unions, and target migrant families with fear and violence.” “We are restoring our authority from the elite companies, and we will not be afraid by Trump, Musk or their billionaire supporters. They have been sentenced for a long time.”
The White House did not immediately respond to the NPR request for comment.
The United States does not officially notice the work holiday, given what historians say is permanent resistance to the unit of the working class. Despite this resistance, the American working class has found ways to celebrate May on the nineteenth century.
Tradition began with a work strike.
Why are Americans protest on May 1?
Before the working day for 8 hours became a standard, the organization now known as the American Federation to work for a strike at the level of the country on May 1, 1886, planned to demand an 8 -hour working day, as many workers were twice bouts.
Strike Chicago, known as the Haymarkket case, turned violent when the police clashed with civilians, and a bomb exploded. Although the intended goal of the bomb was not clear, four men linked to the protests were hanging to conspire to commit a murder and they were celebrating it as the martyrs of Heimark. The Bullman Railways also played an important role in establishing May in the United States workers of Pullman Palace Car Company in a large -scale stop in May 1894, prompting President Cleveland Grex Cleveland to send federal forces to Chicago to break the strike.

This paves the stage for long history to participate in May.
Inspired by Chicago workers, the International Socialist Movement has gained traction, where activists published Marxist literature. In an attempt to separate May of the action movements, the American presidents tried to redefine its importance. President Dwight de Ezenhauer May 1 was made “Law Day– To recognize how the law protects civil freedoms, and workers’ day was transferred to September.
During his first term, Trump repeated his predecessors by announcing the “Day of Loyalty” on May 1, a time to celebrate the country’s loyalty to individual freedoms. The past days of May witnessed similar protests and provinces by migrants and workers who followed against the boundary wall plans for the Republicans and collective deportation efforts.
But the protests held throughout the United States in 2006, which led to a bill to increase sanctions against illegal immigration, may be a better comparison. In March, these protests witnessed about two million demonstrators that gathered in 140 cities and 39 states.

Joseph McCartin, a professor of working history at Georgetown University, said that what distinguishes the May -planned protests is the size of the movement.
With the presence of more than 1,000 event planned on May 1 in more than 1,000 cities, according to the organizers, Macartin said that the protests worldwide will be on the day of May in the world.
“These will be protests highlighting a broader group of people and a broader group of places, and I think this will be historic, at least for this reason,” he said.
