American trade representative Jameson Jarir said on Wednesday that the Trump administration expects to conclude initial tariff deals with some trade partners in the United States within weeks, but negotiations with India are not “close to the finish line” and there are no official talks with China.
Jarir told Fox News that the Trump administration focuses on “targeted” deals aimed at increasing market access to American exports, reducing customs tariffs and non -carrier commercial barriers, and promoting US economic security.
“I would like to say that we have close deals,” said Jarir. “As negotiating, I do not like negotiating in public places, but I will say that we are talking about weeks, not months, to announce some initial deals.”
In recent days, Trump officials said an agreement has been reached with a major trading partner, but they need the approval of the country’s parliament and the prime minister.
In response to a question about whether a deal with India was imminent, Jarir said it was not “the finish line close, but I have a permanent invitation with the Minister of Commerce in India.” Frequent meetings were martyred in the United States and India in recent days.
Jarir said that he would meet representatives from Japan, Joya and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Thursday and the Philippines on Friday and work closely with South Korea and Britain.
